CANNON introduces miniAVTM automatic viscometer
CANNON Instrument Company has introduced a new type of automatic viscometer. The miniAV™, manufactured by CANNON and debuted at PITTCON 2005, automates sample measurement and tube cleaning, the most labor-intensive parts of the cinematic viscosity measurement process. The new instrument stands just over 20 inches tall and occupies roughly the same footprint as a tabletop rotational viscometer. The miniAV has a built-in temperature bath that controls temperature with the high level of precision demanded by ASTM D 445, the cinematic viscosity method. The new instrument features a compound Ubbelohde-style viscometer tube with a 100-fold range. Sample volume required for testing is only six mL. A ten-fold range "fast-run" tube requiring only three mL of sample is also available. Pat Maggi, President of CANNON Instrument Company, said that the miniAV had been developed to provide "an affordable automated cinematic viscometer for those users who have been unable to automate their manual viscosity testing due to the high entry cost of traditional automatic viscometers." Although final pricing had not been determined at the time of the instrument's debut at PITTCON 2005, Maggi said the miniAV would be introduced to the market at a price less than half of the fully automatic CAV-2000 viscometer manufactured by CANNON.
