New generation of extraction units for fat determination in the food and feed market
Depending on the applications, requirements and regulations, the customer can choose between a Soxhlet and a Hot Extraction variant, both available as two and six position instrument. This makes Buchi the only provider with a fully automatic Soxhlet extraction unit in their product portfolio. The new extraction units are designed for the benefit of the end user: After the solvent is selected the basic settings are already predefined. It's possible to start an extraction very quickly without needing to set parameters. The extraction positions (1 to 6) can be activated individually, so that the instrument's energy requirement is reduced considerably. Due to this fact, also small amounts of sample can be extracted on just two positions for the purpose of a repeat determination. Thanks to the ceramic heating plate, instrument cleaning is very easy and user-friendly. The display shows the important information at a glance. As the underlying software concept is also used for other Buchi instruments, as e.g. the vacuum controller, current Buchi customers will benefit by already being acquainted with the easy-to-use software. New users will enjoy the self-explanatory guides and the step-by-step choices offered through user menus. Safety and quality are vital in the laboratory. The extraction unit concept was therefore optimized, so that as little solvent as possible is let into the environment. Only 2 to 3 ml of solvent (petroleum ether) are lost per extraction hour. Protective shields, water flow control and tank sensor are only some examples of several functions assuring the user's safety. The reliability of all applications was checked with certified reference material. The resulting conclusions were summarized in a publication (best@buchi) and convince with very low relative standard deviations. However, the four extraction units did not only become a talking point because of their technical features but also due to their design. All process-relevant parts consist of glass and are not covered. Thus, the user can always follow the course of the extraction. As the coolers are visible, the level of the condensed cooling water can be checked at any time. With this new instrument generation the BÜCHI Labortechnik AG has once again managed to set a new milestone in the field of automatic extraction.
