The technological leader Anton Paar has introduced two new heavy duty refractometers, the Abbemat 450 and the Abbemat 650. These instruments combine an extraordinary robustness with an high precision of ±0,00002 nD for the measurements of the refractive index under the most sever conditions. The two refractometers from Anton Paar "Heavy Duty" are the solution for all of those customers who work with aggressive samples, or perform the measurements of the refractive index inside of an exhaust fume hood, laminar air flow benches or glove boxes. The instruments where developed to be operated by remote control, and consist of two units: a measurement unit and a separate control unit, which may be located in a safe place. In order to obtain this extreme mechanical stability, which is necessary to perform the measurements in aggressive environments, the measurement unit is build from a unique and solid block of aluminum with an anodized surface for a longer lifetime. The instruments utilized near the production line may always be subject shocks and aggressive media. The measurement unit can withstand these risks without any doubt, as well as spray water, all of which are inevitable in these working environments. The instruments are available in two levels of precision: with ±0,00001 nD for the Abbemat 450 and with ±0,00002 nD for the Abbemat 650. The prism is made out of sapphire, is resistant to scratches and offers a large analytical ranging form 1,26 nD up to 1,72 nD. The temperature control, in solid state, is included, is based on a Peltier element, and assures a fast and uniform adjustment of the temperature between 10 °C and 85 °C.
